Across The Universe Day

Tonight, February 4, 2008 at exactly 7 EST, NASA will beam the Beatles’ song Across The Universe to outer space while people and radio stations around the world are being asked to play the song at the same time to celebrate the first ever “Across The Universe Day.”

NASA in a statement, “the transmission will be aimed at the North Star, Polaris which is 431 light years away from earth. The song will travel across the universe at a speed of 186, 000 per second..”

The “Simultaneous- Playing” also marks the 40th Anniversary of the song which was first recorded by the Fab Four on February 4, 1968 at the EMI Studios in Abbey Road, London, England.

There are 4 different versions of the songs which can be found at the following albums:

Original 1968 version on Past Masters Volume II

Alternate 1968 version on The Beatles Anthology Volume II

Remixed 1970 version on Let It Be

Remixed 2003 version on Let It Be…Naked

So, tonight with my trusty old guitar in hand, I’ll be singing and playing my own version of the song to be ONE with all The Beatles’ fans and music lovers all over the world.

This a one for the books celebration that transcends race, gender and age which only shows us how their music is universal and still relevant to this day.
